Album Review: Depraved Murder - Unethical Terrestrial Collapse
Reviewed by Daniel Phipps
Coming from the Indonesian province East Java, Depraved Murder are becoming grizzled veterans of the South East Asia brutal death metal scene. The duo who completed recording of their third full length record Unethical Terrestrial Collapse in April last year will have been holding onto the 9 track collection for close to a year before it sees the light of day in March.
On the surface Depraved Murder are your standard sounding brutal death metal band and to those not overly familiar with the style probably would not really give the Indonesian band much of their attention. Depraved Murder like a lot of bands from the SE Asia region, have a heavy influence from the US brutal death metal scene and in this instance you hear a real throwback to the likes of Suffocation and Deeds of Flesh within their sound as they combine rugged brutality with flares of technical precision wrapped up in a sinister and powerful package. Now those of you who do pay attention when it comes to the uglier more brutal side of the death metal spectrum will really be in for a treat with this record.
Unethical Terrestrial Collapse is a devastating sounding slab of an album which does not skimp on what it is offering to the listener. This is apparent very early into the run length, and what instantly makes its mark on Unethical Terrestrial Collapse is the drum sound. It's a really low and dominating sound which stands out the second the music starts and continues throughout. The drum sound as intrusive as it comes across does not take away from the guitars and the riffs cut through just fine, the guitar playing continues on from the bands past work as it offers both technicality and all out brutality.
Unethical Terrestrial Collapse contains 9 tracks which are filled with all the keys you look for when it comes to brutal death metal. Yes Depraved Murder are not the most original band on the planet however comparing this new effort against the previous album “Manifestation” there has been a lot of work put in behind the scenes over the last 4 years which has lead to Depraved Murder continuing to produce some top level brutal death metal.
