It’s The Razor’s Edge first show of the year at the legendary KK’s Still Mill, the home of rock and metal in the West Midlands, and tonight Toby Jepson and his Wayward Sons grace the hallowed stage.
Opening the evening was supposed to be Xander and the Peace Pirates, but last minute scheduling changes saw the night drop to a two band bill. On the plus side, that meant MuddiBrooke had their stage time increased, news to brighten up this chilly Black Country evening.
The trio were nothing short of electrifying, setting the stage on fire with a dynamic blend of energy, charisma, and musical prowess. Kicking off with ‘ADHD’, a high-energy track that immediately captured the crowd's attention. MuddiBrooke's stage presence was magnetic, and their connection with the audience was palpable from the start.
‘Liverpool Guy’ and ‘Devil’ followed; the lyrics, delivered with conviction, painted vivid stories that resonated with the audience. Closing the set with ‘Cellar’, MuddiBrooke left the stage on a high note, leaving the audience buzzing with excitement for Wayward Sons to take the spotlight. With a setlist that showcased their versatility MuddiBrooke has undoubtedly solidified their place as an artist to watch in the music scene.
With the scene set and the crowd suitably warmed up, it was down to Planet Rock presenter Paul Anthony to introduce tonight’s headliners Wayward Sons. Opening with the energetic ‘Big Day’, the audience was immediately drawn into a musical journey that seamlessly blended melodic hooks with powerful rhythms.
The carefully curated setlist featured a mix of fan favourites and tracks from their latest album, 2021's ‘Even Up the Score’. From the infectious ‘Feel Good Hit’ to the emotionally charged ‘Be Still’, Wayward Sons had the crowd captivated from start to finish.
Frontman Toby Jepson's charismatic delivery and the tight musical chemistry among band members were evident throughout the performance. Hits like ‘Radio Denial’ and ‘Crush’ had the audience singing along, creating an electric atmosphere in the venue.
The encore, featuring ‘Totally Screwed’ and the haunting ‘Ghost’, left the crowd in awe, concluding with the anthemic ‘Joke's on You’ crowing the evening perfectly. A rock masterclass to start 2024 in style.
