Bloodstock Bound: Biomechanimal

As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.

Today we chat with Biomechanimal!

The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.

Biomechanimal: Hi, we're Biomechanimal, a British Electronic Metal band from London. I'm Matt, I'm the vocalist, programmer & producer for Bio, then we have Kekko on Drums, Sarunas on Guitar, and Keith on Bass, backing vocals, and some post production.

The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?

Biomechanimal Biomechanimal is something of a diverse beast. We cut our teeth on that Slimelight industrial stuff, more clubby and gothy, but post pandemic, we started branching out into a more electronic metal thing, taking elements of Black Metal, Djent, Hardcore, and mixing that with modern Electronic, Symphonic, and that aggro-tech stuff we were used to. The result is, we make music we enjoy, which is unashamedly 'Bio'. It's less about genre, and more about texture. But to make things easy, we just use 'Electronic Metal'.

The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?

Biomechanimal: We'd been hitting up Simon (cheers guv!) for a little while about playing BOA, and this year, we made it work. We've focussed a lot on getting a lot of high-grade footage from our recent festival slots and tours, and I feel this is pretty handy for trying to explain what Bio is about to someone who has never really heard of it.

The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?

Biomechanimal: BOA was my very first festival, back in 2010, I believe. It was just after Dio had passed, and Mikael Åkerfeldt played a load of Rainbow covers. Bloodstock has this energy I never really got at other festivals; it celebrates so many aspects of extreme metal. I can't wait to take our crew out and show Bloodstock what we're made of.

The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?

Biomechanimal: Hah, if you've never seen a Bio show, I've got to say, come and give it a try. You may like it, pull a face, and go 'That's not metal', but we really couldn't care. It's intense, high energy, pushing sound to the highest levels of extreme that we can. Blastbeats, raw vocals, zaagkicks, wobbles, Djent chugs, 3AM club grooves; this is Bio. Music we love, in our image.

The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?

Biomechanimal: Saturday. If you miss it, Kekko will hunt you down. We're here to fly the flag of British Industrial!

The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?

Biomechanimal: Yeah, so it's really cool to see a lot of Electronic stuff on the bill this year. Combichrist & Ludivoco Technique are from our industrial circuit, then you have Mimi Barks & Igorrr, who also do this hyper modern electronic stuff. Will definitely be aiming to catch all of them.

I'm super into Satyricon, so will definitely be on that. Caught them at Heaven a few years ago, really love them. I followed Satyr's battle with the brain tumour, so we're very, very lucky to still have them. The lads are very into Septic Flesh too, so we'll see ya in the pit for them.

The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?

Biomechanimal: We've just come off from doing a show in New York, and we're off to Germany later in the year with Zardonic & Mechanical Vein; never hit Germany before, so really looking forward to that. If that goes well, we'd love to hit up some of those big German fests like WGT, but bucket list, something like Wacken or Hellfest would be sick af.

The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?

Biomechanimal: Wherever people are partying, we'll be there. Honestly, if you see us, just say hi; we're fairly friendly and all love a drink!

The Razor's Edge: It’s festival weekend, what’s your food vendor of choice on site?

Biomechanimal: Something that isn't going to ruin my guts by Sunday (see ya at the taco truck)

The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!

Biomechanimal: See ya in the pit!
