Bloodstock Bound: The Gallowgate Murders
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.
Today we chat with The Gallowgate Murders
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
The Gallowgate Murders: Hey guys, we are 'The Gallowgate Murders' from Scotland!
First up, we have Tom Coyne AKA discount Shane MacGowan on vocals and mandolin who is known for generally just being a drunken Irish numpty.
Anna Gembal-McLaughlin playing rhythm guitar, tin whistle and vocals, she is hailing from Poland, and we are convinced she is actually a pixie.
Craig Inglis shredding the lead guitar and donning the kilt true Scotsman style, making it awkward on the high stages…
Sean Clayton on drums and generally causing more trouble than he's worth.
Finally, we have Ryan Shearer on the bass guitar, and being the only sensible decision the band made in the early stages.
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?
The Gallowgate Murders: We like to call it Celtic Punk. We throw traditional Irish and Scottish vibes into punk and rock. In our earlier stages, when we were discovering our sound, things started to get heavier, faster, and just all-around fun, and we came out with a sound quite unique to the genre. It's music to drink to, dance to, and go all out mental to.
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
The Gallowgate Murders: This is actually a pretty funny story. After the announcement last year on the Saturday of bands playing 2024, the mandolin player and drummer just looked at each other and said, "we are playing this thing, one way or another!" Bloodstock much later announced they had very limited spots left on the EMP stage. Our mandolin player tried to get in touch to find out about the bands promo pack but didn't get a response, so he half drunkenly made one up down the pub where he just took the piss out of every band member, submitted and well... apparently, it worked 😉
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
The Gallowgate Murders: Honestly? Everything. We've all adored this festival and have been going for years. It's like a dream come true to turn up and enjoy the festival as always, but then hit the stage on Sunday.
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
The Gallowgate Murders: We are bringing the party guys. Our shows are high energy, booze filled, dance inducing riots. We've had crowd surfing pirate ships, the ever popular "wall of Ceilidh", stage bevvy pours, inflatables popping up everywhere we look, the list goes on. Get ready for a lot of fun!
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
The Gallowgate Murders: We are hitting the stage on Sunday, and considering flogging Molly are playing later on, the slot couldn't be more perfect for us.
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
The Gallowgate Murders: The lineup this year is insane! We'll be running around from stage to stage, catching as many bands as we can. Two fellow Edinburgh bands, Hammer and Disposable, are playing this year too so we will definitely be looking forward to that. We'll hands down be in the thick of Flogging Molly, that is absolutely guaranteed.
The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
The Gallowgate Murders: We have big things planned, starting with the new album we are currently working on. Mad creative vibes have been happening this year, and following on from that, expect to see a lot of us, we're coming for you.
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
The Gallowgate Murders: You can bet yer arse we are! We are always there with various crowds. We'll be a bit split, but the majority of us will be in Valhalla by day and Midgard by night, as is tradition.
The Razor's Edge: It’s festival weekend, what’s your food vendor of choice on site?
The Gallowgate Murders: The Gyoza van, hands down. Best scran ever. I will die on this hill.
The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!
The Gallowgate Murders: We'll see you all soon guys! We'll bring the party, you bring yerselves and yer booze!
