Single Review: Poison Zoomak - Build The Fire

Hailing from Northants, Poison Zoomak have been working the British rock scene for two decades, with an abundance of critical acclaim, and 2026 will see them rise further with this latest single ‘Burning The Fire’ followed by a new album latest this year.

The band describe the single “a song that represents Poison Zoomak as a band. It's about always moving forward. The perfect opener to the album and a new beginning.” So how good is their fresh start?

Following a brief a cappella intro the song launches full on with a catchy riff, very reminiscent of The Offsprings ‘The Kids Aren’t Alright’, but slightly slower than said pop-punk anthem and containing enough hooks to drag the listener in.

The verses are driven by Ashley Alexander’s powerful vocal lines which build to a powerful chorus, bringing that catchy intro riff back and one which will be sure to have crowds bouncing at live shows. Overall, the song highlights the bands ability to vary pace and momentum with aplomb, taking the listener on a rollercoaster ride of feelings through the short four minute ditty.

As an entrée to the bands main course – the album which arrives later this year – this whets the rock worlds appetite for what will be a big year for Poison Zoomak.
