Welcome to The Covid Effect, A podcast mini-series brought to you by The Razor's Edge.
Over the course of eight weeks we have chatted with various music industry insiders looking at the effects the pandemic has had on the music industry. From major label Nuclear Blast to independent music label APF Records. Publicists The Noise Cartel, music festival Manor Fest, promoters Surprise You're Dead, merchandise and apparel supplier Uknite the Realm, rock club Fuel Rock Club and radio pluggers Pluggin' Baby. They have all opened up to us about the trials and tribulations the past year and more has had on them.

In episode 1, we talk to Nathan Barley Phillips, Senior A&R for Nuclear Blast. We look at how the record label has managed the situation, changes to their ways of working and look forward to that light at the end of the tunnel and what happens when we return to normal.
In episode 2, Paul talks to Adam, director of The Noise Cartel. The company is music PR firm specialising in the heavier end of the market. Paul and Adam discuss how the pandemic effected the company and the work they do. What changes they've had to make over the past year and the possible route back to normality.
Earlier in the series we talked to a major label to see what impact the pandemic had on them. In this episode, The Bearded Monkey talks to Andrew Field of independent label APF Records. They discuss how the label has adapted over the past year and how difficult it has been for them, their bands and even their fans.
In Episode 4 of the series Paul chats with Ian Shaw, promoter with Surprise You're Dead and booking agent with TKO. Ian is responsible for booking some of the biggest metal bands in the world to some of the most popular tours you've been to in recent years! Ian opens up about how hard the past year has been, how the pandemic has impacted both promoting and booking, how they are looking to diversify and more...
In Episode 5 of the series The Bearded Monkey chats with Wayne organiser of Manorfest. The festival has been unfortunate enough to have both the 2020 and 2021 editions cancelled thanks to COVID. Wayne talks about that impact, how he and the festival have survived and his plans for the future.
In Episode 6 Paul chats with Rob Toogood, the founder and owner from Fuel Rock Club in Cardiff. They chat about the effects the pandemic has had on the club, the help they've had from various agencies and what the future holds.
In Episode 7. The Bearded Monkey chats with Anthony Knight, owner of Uknite The Realm Apparel and former frontman of Gethika. They discuss the impact the pandemic has had on the brand, the perils of relocating to Cornwall just prior to the pandemic and how his business model has changed due to the ongoing situation.
In our final episode of the series we chat with Emma Scott, the former voice of Kerrang Radio's Drive Time show, she now runs Pluggin' Baby a company that helps push new music onto all of the top radio stations around the country. We chat about the impact of the pandemic on the business, having to claim Universal Credit to get by the worst months of the crisis, how Pluggin' Baby has adapted over the past year and a lot more.
