Album Review: Planet of Zeus - Faith in Physics

Greece isn’t exactly the first place you’d think of when looking for the next big stoner rock band. In their own little bubble Planet of Zeus have created their own twist on the genre and built up a following around them.

First coming to the UK’s attention with their awe-inspiring set at Bloodstock a number of years ago, full on tours have followed throughout European and their reputation has grown exponentially.

Album Review: Planet of Zeus - Faith in Physics

After four studio albums and a live album, September 2019 sees the bad return to the forefront of people’s consciousness with latest opus ‘Faith in Physics’ landing on Heavy Psych Sounds. Dealing with subjects such as digitalization, religion, social network revolution, addiction and lonerism; this is an album for the thinking man of stoner rock!

The record opens with ‘Gazoline’ the first single from the album (watch the video for this track below). It’s starts with a wonderfully fuzzy bass and drum line before the guitars clear the mist and the Planet of Zeus sound fills yours ears.

‘Man vs God’ is almost Clutch like in its epic-ness. Fluctuating in pace and drive, the softly spoken start builds to a chorus that has a hint of south Asian sound. Huge in volume and Babis’ vocals breathe life into this experimental number.

Throughout the album the band show they are willing to experiment and push the boundaries of the Planet of Zeus mantra we are used to. They experiment with the unconventional throughout, melding unique sounds with their traditional instruments to produce a progressive feel.

What started as stoner rock has evolved into an album that is unique from start to finish. Throw elements of stoner, prog and experimental music into a mixing pot and the outcome is ‘Faith in Physics’. As a listener if you’ve enjoyed the latter day Clutch recordings you will absolutely adore this!

Planet Of Zeus' album 'Faith in Physics' is released on September 27th via Heavy Pysch Sounds.
