DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Amongst Liars
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Amongst Liars sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Leo: There’s a few for me that I'd have to make a very quick choice over. The Black Crowes - Shake Your Money Maker album is one! Luke Combs - This One's For You would be a great for the sunshine (I love my country music!!) BMTH - That's The Spirt would be in the mix but I think for out and out fav album and the one that really got me into music and playing guitar would have to be Appetite For Destruction by GNR!
Ian: I’d go for the album Rage Against the Machine (by RATM!)
Ross: ok computer, Radiohead. So I can revel in my sadness at being stuck on an island.
Adam: if I had to pick one album I think it will have to be Biggie Smalls Ready To Die, I feel like this titled album is preparing me for what could happen on this island! Plus I know the boys would pick rock albums so need to shake this island up a bit
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Leo: I'd have to go with the front cover of the Rumours Album by Fleetwood Mac! ICONIC.
Ian: Delicate Sound of Thunder by Pink Floyd - love their artwork and never get tired of looking at this image.
Ross: Black album by Metallica, as black will some up my mood for ever.
Adam: I’d have to choose In the Court of the Crimson King because I normally get that reaction from people when I enter a room.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Leo: If it was cold I'd say Guinness, but as we are on an Island I'd say double Vodka diet coke loads of ice...keep it comin'!
Ian: Has to be Captain Jack Rum - barrels of it!
Ross: Vodka!!
Adam: Drink I’d have to choose on this island would be piña colada because it’s very appropriate and will go really well with my hammock (...not banana hammock btw)
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Leo: I would be going all out to grab my own bands t shirt as I don't own any band merch. Not until we start playing regularly will I acquire!!
Ian: I’d follow Leo here, as I love my current black Amongst Liars hoodie (available exclusively on our Dizzyjam site here: https://amongstliars.dizzyjam.com) It’s very soft and warm - and extremely stylish!
Ross: hat. A bit of shade from sun!!
Adam: I’d have to salvage my extra-large Wu-Tang Clan hoodie to wear on cold nights round the camp fire snuggling up to Ross
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Leo: Well I guess it would have to be superman so he can fly me back home! Holding me like Lois Lane above the ocean. Majestic.
Ian: Either Keith Moon (if he was still alive obviously as every day would be insane and a lot of madness!) or Scarlett Johansson. She seems fun.
Ross: I’d like to be stranded with lots a lovely ladies. That would make me feel a little better.
Adam: I think being stranded on this island with the beach boys would be entertaining, 24 hours surfing baby!!!
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Leo: AC/DC if you want blood. Bon Scott is on fire!!!
Ian: Bowie - Glastonbury 2000
Ross: I'd rather listen to the Arsenal podcast than a live recording just to feel even more depressed.
Adam: My Walkman would have to have Jonny Cash live at Folsom prison as I’d be able to relate to the inmates.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Leo: Has to be Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden. Not sure how big the island is but I know he flies 747s so hopefully he could land it without going into the ocean to rescue us!
Ian: yeah Bruce is a good shout. Either him or Ozzy, as it would be very funny to be rescued by him, probably filmed and he would definitely bring along a whole camera crew and entourage with helicopters who could rescue us.
Ross: Message would be to the rock gods… to take me with them
Adam: Think my message in a bottle has to be to The Police, I'll send an S.O.S to the world. I hope that someone gets my message in a bottle.
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Leo: I think Ross would taste okay. A sentence I'd never thought I'd say.
Ian: mmmmmm roast Ross, marinated in coconut milk…….
Ross: I’d cook Ian as he looks tasty.
Adam: I think to decide who gets sacrificed first we will have to have a good old fashioned game of peanut war…. But if all fails then Ross.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Leo: I'm not sure anyone in particular has shaped my outlook but as for music and what they did to really inspire me with feeling and the way they played when I began playing I'd go for Richie Sambora.
Ian: Dave Grohl as he seems like all round decent bloke!
Ross: John Lennon!
Adam: I think if I had to save anyone it would have to be John Lennon, the greatest of all time
