Teaming up with Profound Lore Records, the one man Italian based act Cosmic Putrefaction is set to release Crepuscular Dirge For The Blessed Ones. This collection of material which will be Cosmic Putrefaction’s third release will see the Italian musician expand on the narrative of the previous two records as the central figure of the records discovers a sorrowful truth at the end of the already sorrowful journey.

Crepuscular Dirge For The Blessed Ones is an 8 track collection of dark atmospheric death metal which has been created in the vision of musician Gabriele Garmaglia the mastermind of Cosmic Putrefaction. Crepuscular Dirge For The Blessed Ones does not follow a particular pattern with its song writing or performance, it is a true representation of the death metal genre being personalised by the artist. This vision is created with a number of twists, these come in the forms of the daunting use of atmospheric sounds or the subtle and eerie melodies which can be found throughout the tracks.

Album Review: Cosmic Putrefaction – Crepuscular Dirge For The Blessed Ones

Cosmic Putrefaction do not conform to what people think that death metal is or should be, but thisis not to say that the album does not let the more traditional or classic death metal composition at points during its running time as Garamaglia along with Giulio Galati of Hideous Divinity on drums unleash a forceful and crushing display, which also showcases some great catchy songwriting techniques to accompany the ferocity. A track like 'Amniotic Bewilderment' is the perfect example of the above with its vicious nature which will then bring in those subtle hints of melody, whereas other tracks are a lot more forceful in the use of these melodic sections including the use of melodic vocals at points. If you want just an all out savage death metal display then 'Lysergic Sulfuric Waters' has this covered as it rips and pulverises throughout its entire runtime, the riffs accompanied by intense drumming from Giulio Galati.

One thing is for sure and that is that there is a lot to process on Crepuscular Dirge For The Blessed Ones and it’s not a quick listen record. Each listen through you will uncover something that did not hit you that previous time around. If you want something that is unconventional and going to offer you something different whilst not straying too far out then this maybe for you.
