DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Overhate

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Overhate

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Overhate sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Giancarlo: Well this album has to be Kreator’s ‘Coma of Souls’ because that was the one that got me into all of this. But is not fair to just save one!

Samir: I would choose the 'Master of Puppets', because it was a album where I could define my musical tastes and learn about the complexity of a musical composition.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Giancarlo: Iron Maiden’s 'Powerslave' will make for an excellent decoration, I think we can agree worldwide with this.

Oswaldo: Obituary’s 'Cause of Death'.

Samir: hahahaha, I think I would use the poster to cover myself from the cold since we are in survivor mode, but it would definitely be the cover of the 'Master of Puppets' my favourite album in all history.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Giancarlo: Beer, we’ll keep it simple since we’re on a an island.

Oswaldo: I’ll go with some rum and coke.

Samir: I would choose water, this will allow me to prolong my life remember we are in survivor mode

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Giancarlo: I’ve save a shirt from the new album of Overhate ‘New Beginnings are met’, it looks great and suits me good.

Oswaldo: I’ll save our new last album!

Samir: I would definitely save the third Overhate album as it is an album that I had the opportunity to work on from the very beginning and it is a really sincere album.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Giancarlo: My wife (awwwwww).

Samir: We are a band and if we are shipwrecked together it is fine as a band we will stick together to get ahead and this applies in all scenarios.

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Giancarlo: That would be Slayer’s ‘Decade of Agression’ without a doubt. I was lucky enough that when they played Venezuela on the ‘Christ illusion’ tour, the set was a bit similar to that concert, with killer additions like ‘Disciple’, ‘Cult’ and a bunch of others. It was a hell of a show to have witnessed for sure!

Oswaldo: That live show would the Tribute to Freddie Mercury, by various artists.

Samir: It would be a Venezuelan radio program called Your Generation, in that program I learned a lot about rock and new music.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Giancarlo: I guess my message will be directed to James Hethfield. I guess he wouldn’t care, but if so, he does have the means to rescue my band!

Samir: I think the most appropriate would be Giancarlo, I'm sure he would find a way to rescue me, he always finds a solution for everything.

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Giancarlo: I guess we would sacrifice Samir, since he is the bass player, nobody will care, and he is fat, so that ensures us food for some time.

Oswaldo: Samir die! Lol

Samir: I think it would be Giancarlo the leader of the band.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Giancarlo: That’d be my father or my mother, I think, are the only persons that would fit all of the categories you’ve given there.

Oswaldo: Now Samir survives lol.

Samir: Either we all die or we all save ourselves, each and every one of my bandmates has influenced me and my musical career.
