Gothic Doom duo The Medea Project take us through the looking glass of inspirations with latest EP Reflections

With every release The Medea Project create an ominous atmosphere which makes an immediate impact with opening track, the first of two new interpretations of the track 'The Ghosts of St Augustines' which is taken form their Sisyphus album. This first one (MMXXII) fires up the goosebumps and ticks all the boxes as not only is reminiscent of Paradise Lost’s Gothic era, but there is also a subtle hint of Type O Negative too.

'Warhead' contains some of the previous track’s element but has a gnashing urgency to it and features dual vocals in places which only add to the track’s aggressive nature.

Up next is the second version of 'The Ghost of St Augustines' this video edit version shaves nearly two minutes of its predecessor and whilst a lot of the key elements remains there are noticeable differences mainly at the tracks start.

Now at this point I am trying to contain my excitement as I’ve seen the track listing and knowing the band previous work, I wait for baited breath and wait 'Cain' is exactly what I was hoping it is a ambitious cover of the Tiamat track, the original is slow and brooding and The Medea Project don’t make a carbon copy, in fact they take the track and create something unique with it.

Lastly the EP concludes with what I can only conclude an absolute stroke of genius. For everything I have loved about Reflections nothing prepared me another cover from one of the most underrated Motorhead albums 1916. The duos version of 'Nightmare The Dreamtime' is so unbelievably gothic that it would not be, and I know this is a very bold statement out of the place on one of the greatest movie soundtracks ever The Crow, which is genuinely how much I rate it as a cover.

If the Medea Project can unveil such gems on an EP, it certainly has me excited for what they do next.
