Album Review: Kryptoxik Mortality - Interdimensional Calamitous Extirpation
Reviewed by Daniel Phipps
Kryptoxik Mortality are a brutal death metal act based in the Pacific Northwest. Following a number of independent releases which have been digitally released in 2022 and 2023 the band are now part of the Comatose Music banner who will be releasing the bands second full length Interdimensional Calamitous Extirpation on December 8th.
Kryptoxik Mortality definitely and unapologetically falls into the slam banner and this record makes absolutely zero apologies for that fact as Interdimensional Calamitous Extirpation attacks you with a mid tempo brutal groove which is combined with grotesque guttural vocals. What I will say is that with this style of death metal is that especially right now with its huge popularity it really needs something to push it so it remains memorable and a lot of bands can provide brutal riffs but cannot really do anything that's memorable. Now Interdimensional Calamitous Extirpation is an exceptionally groovy record and the band certainly have a great knack for keeping those groove filled riffs tight and heavy as hell, but I feel that this record at times is really missing that killer instinct which would really put it on another level.
Now what is for certain is that a good chunk of the brutal death metal community will not have my view of this record and will be all over layer after layer of powerful slamming death metal and if that is your thing then you should find this to your liking. Irrelevant of my opinion on the overall songwriting, Interdimensional Calamitous Extirpation really does sound on the whole really good with the guitars having some real bite to them and the drums whilst not overly flashy have a good solid sound really giving the record its punishing groove.
Kryptoxik Mortality wont be everyones cup of tea but with the slam style continuing to grow with its popularity it's a great time for the band to be pretty relentless with their recent number of releases. Fans of bands like Kraanium, Vulvectomy etc. should definitely look up Interdimensional Calamitous Extirpation as it really fits well within the style that both of the aforementioned bands are prevalent in, as it provides a nasty dose of slamming death metal that truly gives little to no care if you don't like it.
