DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring a.P.A.t.T.
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we found Genral MIDI of Liverpool collective a.P.A.t.T. sat on the beach. The island is far from his Liverpudlian home, but how did they end up on here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
General MIDI from a.P.A.t.T. at the helm!
So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
General MIDI: The Best of Music Vol 1... but I only like side A
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
General MIDI: The White Album by the Beatles cos it would give me something to draw on.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to chose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
General MIDI: Leffe Blonde. A 75cl continuously regenerating and perpetually chilled bottle
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. Whats the merch and for what band?
General MIDI: Would merch be the thing I’d reach for? I might want something more useful if I’m going to be stranded on a desert island. I’d want to hang on to my first ever Metallica t-shirt that I lost years ago, I’d like that back. I was only about 12 so it was massive on me and it had a draw string around the bottom so was like a giant t-shirt bag - I could pile a load of other stuff in that.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
General MIDI: Just for the nostalgia, it would be The Mothers of Invention Live at Fillmore East June 1971. Which has the added advantage of having a white sleeve so more space to draw
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
General MIDI: Surely it would have to be one of the pirate metal guys? Swashbuckle or the Pirates of Penzance
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
General MIDI: It’s probably best to go with me, they’d survive for longest that way. Happy to fall on my sword for this one.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
General MIDI: Can I hang around with them for a bit as well? I’m gonna go for Chris Morris, he’s a musician as well as making the TV and radio that he’s known for. When you look at shows like Jam, the style, the mood, the delivery, the background, some of the inquisitive element, he’s definitely a kindred spirit.
If General MIDI gets back from the island in time, a.P.A.t.T. have a live stream coming up in conjunction with promoters Buds & Spawn this week! Taking place on 10th December and will feature Liverpool based collective a.P.A.t.T. and Sheffield post-rock/shoegaze outfit New Ghost.
