E.P. Review: Sacrilegious Crown - Plenilunium Cult
Reviewed by Paul Hutchings
There are times when you scratch your head and wonder what you are listening to. It happened to me with this E.P. Marred by one of the most hideous quality productions I’ve ever heard, it was so muffled that I had to check my settings. But no, if you want to listen to music performed in the toilet of a submarine on the bottom of the ocean then this is it.
Described as an enigmatic one-man band, Sacrilegious Crown is certainly raw black metal. ‘Plenilunium Cult’ is three tracks of absolutely terrifying nightmarish screaming, chilling howls, and wave after wave of tremolo riffing. It makes no sense and whilst I appreciate that’s the appeal of such extreme music, it doesn’t make it any easier to listen to or enjoy. The fourth and final track, ‘Culto IV: Homily’ is a cacophony of noises and effects that is about as twisted as it comes. Dark, sinister, and utilising a real distorted church organ, it’s incredibly harrowing.
Two listens was enough to understand that whilst there is a market for this devilish and cleverly composed music, it isn’t with me. Seek it out for yourself. You may find the tortured vocal style to your taste. It wasn’t mine.
