Bloodstock 2022: Introducing - Warlock A.D.
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and Jägermeister stages at this years event.
Today we chat with Warlock A.D.!
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Warlock A.D.: We are The Mighty WarlocK A.D. - Our current line-up consists of Whiteacre the Mighty Warlock on Lead vocals and programming, Quinn Eilianther the Elven Bard on bass, Horace the Alchemist on Rhythm Guitars, Thorumm Mackintosh Dwarf King of Lochnagar on Phantom Drums and newcomer Bjornulfr the Beast-Slayer on Lead Guitars!
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your style of metal?
Warlock A.D.: We take the tales of epic adventures we have experienced throughout the multiverse and pen them into epic heavy metal sagas mixing together the cheek of Tenacious D, the gritty power of Dio and the epic sweeping orchestral work of power metal bands like Twilight Force or Rhapsody.
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Warlock A.D.: We earned our spot at Bloodstock when we got through to the final of M2TM Stoke - Simon Hall enjoyed what he saw and found the opportunity to put our small set up/huge sound on the Jägermeister stage!
The Razor's Edge: How tough was the competition this year?
Warlock A.D.: The competition was insane. In our Heat we were up against Naked Sunday, Headpress (who went on to win the final) and Eventual Fate - all talented artists. Then in our final we were up against such titans as Hellfekted (who went on to earn a spot on the New Blood stage through the reserve list), MERCIA, Leave no Witness and MUFUNTA.
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Warlock A.D.: The excitement we feel is unreal. At the beginning of 2022 we sat down as a team and said, jokingly, “By the end of the year we will sort endorsements, an album, a tour and a slot at Bloodstock”... and it has all come to fruition which feels insane. We are honestly so honoured to be able to be a part of such an incredibly prestigious event.
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Warlock A.D.: Three words - Power Metal Party. We take the epic intricacies of performing technical power metal and mix it together with involving the entire crowd in our stories creating one huge communal event with the sole intention of bringing a smile to our audience’s faces. We are also the ONLY band in the UK that conjures a ghost to play our drums parts - and it is truly something you have to experience for yourself.
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Warlock A.D.: We are performing mid afternoon on Saturday 13th August! We are so honoured to be performing in the same arena on the same day as the incredible Mercyful Fate - from whom we take a lot of inspiration!
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Warlock A.D.: Just to name a couple - Night Flight Orchestra, Nanowar of Steel, Dimmu Borgir, Merciful Fate and, of course, The Kunts.
The Razor's Edge: Playing the Jägermeister Stage is just the first stepping stone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Warlock A.D.: Although we are performing on the smaller Jägermeister stage, we fully intend to bring our biggest show yet - a big performance on a small stage! In terms of the future, we have various plans in place for where our story is going next - with at least another 7 albums worth of stories to tell. Work on our second album, “Book II: The Valley of Vâgené” already in the works! Aside from that, we are taking our show on the road with various small tours planned for the future - the first being our “Fall of the Æfintyr” tour in September!
The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock!
Warlock A.D.: YES! See you there! Cannot wait, love you xoxo
