Bloodstock 2022: Introducing – Portrayal of Ruinn

Bloodstock 2022: Introducing - Portrayal of Ruinn

As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and Jägermeister stages at this years event.

Today we chat with Calvin, vocalist with Portrayal of Ruinn!

The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.

Calvin: We are Portrayal of Ruinn and we based in (I tried so hard not to say hail from) Manchester. We are Calvin Fayle (Vocalist), Sean Grogan (Guitarist), Tom Grogan (Guitarist), Tom Fisher (Bassist) and Chris Webster (Drummer).

The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your style of metal?

Calvin: We call ourselves melodic deathcore as we don’t believe we blend in with the usual deathcore crowd. If I were going to name bands we could sound similar to it would be Suicide Silence, Carnifex, Whitechapel, All Shall Perish and As Blood Runs Black.

The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?

Calvin: We won the Manchester Metal to the Masses and we are still in shock about it.

The Razor's Edge: How tough was the competition this year?

Calvin: Disgustingly tough. I went to all the heats and I could see just how much talent there is in the Manchester area. We were absolutely shocked to get to the finals by winning the first three rounds via crowd vote. We didn’t think we were that popular haha. Then the finals came and we were the final competing band on the bill. Watching the first three bands smash their sets installed fear into our hearts but somehow we managed it. Trust me, it was far from easy!

Bloodstock 2022: Introducing – portrayal of Ruinn

The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?

Calvin: This will be the first major festival, possible first major gig, that we will play and we want to make sure we do it right. This isn’t the end once we have played. We are using this as a stepping stone to push ourselves further. M2TM is a great opportunity for bands to get noticed, if that’s what they are after. May apply for Eurovision next year haha.

The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?

Cavin: If you like your breakdowns as well as your melodies, we are the band for you. Brees? Got plenty of them for you. Blastbeats? Chris can’t help but destroy that bass drum. Chunky bass riffs? Fisher is going to show you how it’s done whilst looking good doing it.

We don’t just concentrate on how we are on stage. After all, we are there for the crowd. I will fully interact with you all and I will be demanding plenty in return. Circle pits, walls of death, and even a ballroom pit. Want to see a ballroom pit? Make sure you come and check us out!

The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?

Calvin: We are playing on the Saturday which is incredible. It seems like a proper deathcore day and so glad to be a part of that.

The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?

Calvin: On the New Blood Stage we are definitely going to be checking out our guys in Karma’s Puppet, Cast In Tephra, Steel Mage as well as our Unearthed Music buds in Imperium, Hellfeckted, Devastator, and finally Warlock A.D (Jager Stage)

As for the other stages there are SO MANY! I will have to narrow it down to Lamb Of God, Dark Funeral, Dimmu Borgir, Lorna Shore, Bloodywood, Dark Tranquillity, Ingested, and Party Cannon!

The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first stepping stone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?

Calvin: You bet it is! We signed up to Unearthed Music in the event that we did actually win our M2TM. Once we play Bloodstock we want to get as many opportunities as possible to play around the country, a possible tour. Maybe even pick up some gigs in Europe. We are also working on our next EP so keep an eye on us for some banging new tunes.

The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!

Calvin: SEE YOU IN BLOODSTOCK!!!
