Bloodstock 2022: Introducing – Sulvain

Bloodstock 2022: Introducing - Sulvain

As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and Jägermeister stages at this years event.

Today we chat with Aaron, guitarist with Sulvain!

The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.

Aaron: We are Sulvain, a 4-piece NOLA grunge band originating from villages in and around sunny Northamptonshire, UK.

Members:

Aaron - Guitars
Mat - Bass
Rob - Drums
Skye - Vocals

The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your style of metal?

Aaron: NOLA Grunge is probably the best way to describe ourselves. We have been compared to bands like Alice in Chains, Down, Black Label Society, Pearl Jam and Kyuss with hints of Korn in there. Hopefully this will give the readers a better indication of our style.

The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?

Aaron: We managed to secure ourselves a slot via Metal 2 The Masses in Leicester.

The Razor's Edge: How tough was the competition this year?

Aaron: It was extremely tough, the scene in Leicester is on fire with the amount of talent thriving through the city. We were completely speechless when our name was called at the end of finals night. A very surreal feeling.

Please check out the other finalist Bile Caster, who deservedly grabbed a spot on the Jagermeister Stage, Pluto, Running with Knives and Augurist.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Simon Yarwood and his team for putting the amount of time and effort into running the competition as well as they did. It was professional and it was awesome to be part of it.

A massive shout-out to venues, Duffy’s Bar and Firebug and their staff (Bar, security, sound and light engineers) for making us feel right at home and being incredible hosts.

The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?

Aaron: This is the greatest achievement of our band career to date. The feeling of playing the best damn festival in the UK is indescribable. We’ve said this many times but we cannot praise Bloodstock enough for the community they have built and giving bands from the underground scene a platform to jump from. What more could you ask for? They festival is a safe environment and it’s like a second home for us, so to play it really is a very surreal feeling for us.

The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?

Aaron: Emotional with energy. The tracks we have written have come from personal experiences, filled with raw emotion and we try to emphasise this throughout our live set. We want the crowd to feel like they are on a journey, and if they feel they can relate to our music, that would be ace. We hope our music supports people and everyone has a damn good time when they come to watch us. People have paid good money to attend these events and we want them to feel like they’ve had their money's worth from watching us.

The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?

Aaron: We are playing on Sunday, 14th on the New Blood Stage.

The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?

Aaron: Sleep Token // Lorna Shore // Eye Hate God // Lamb of God // Behemoth // Ingested // THUUM // Tribe of Ghosts // Bile Caster // Heart of a Coward // Malevolence // Cattle Decapitation // Bloodywood // Dimmu Borgir // Jinjer // Sylosis // Illnino // Syncolima and the Secret Band

The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first stepping stone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?

Aaron: Absolutely, we couldn’t agree more with that statement. The hard work starts now.

We have recently recorded our debut album, which is due to be released later this year. Naturally, we will be wanting to promote the album and get as many shows under our belt as possible. The goal is to reach as many new towns and cities and build upon our fanbase.

We have some ideas already kicking about for the second album too. That will be a big focus for us next year as we tour around the UK. We want to keep the momentum going as much as we possibly can after this opportunity.
