Bloodstock Bound: Sanguinem
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and Jägermeister stages at this years event.
Today we chat with Sanguinem!
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Sanguinem: My name is Geos Letona, bass player, founder and song writer of Sanguinem which mean ‘Blood’ in Latin, my brothers from different mothers are George Gt. Stergiou on lead guitar, Marcus Hadjithoma on lead guitar, Juan Pablo (JP) on vocals and main lyricist, and James Wise on Drums replacing our original drummer Jerry Sadowski who’s taking a break from the band due to other commitments.
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your style of metal?
Sanguinem: We play a melodic groovy death metal with some hints of black metal.
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Sanguinem: We got into Metal to the Masses competition in London and we made it to the very end winning the competition, it was hard work and commitment but very worthy in the end.
The Razor's Edge: How tough was the competition this year?
Sanguinem: It was very very tough, lots of great bands some of them friends of mine too from the London metal scene, it was really intense but all with good vibes and supportive of the other the bands.
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Sanguinem: It means the world to me and by that I mean It makes me very proud because we started from zero, nada, personally I’ve been playing in bands for 30 years, even with Richie Faulkner from Judas Priest in ‘Ace Mafia’ my very first project here in London, and never got to play Bloodstock or major gigs, we never had help for example ‘I know this guy from…so can get us in the bill…’, etc. We did it by our own effort, commitment, musicianship and the true support of our fans.
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Sanguinem: We are intense, full of energy, there’s a lot of dynamics music wise, there’s space to breathe, memorable melodies and harmonies, there’s plenty of head banging bouncy riffs that make you jump, it’s when you actually feel what you are playing as it’s coming right out of your soul.
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Sanguinem: We are playing on Sunday!!
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Sanguinem: Sepultura, Megadeth, In Flames, Meshuggah, our friends Lokust among many others, probably would have to list them all…
The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first stepping stone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Sanguinem: Yes indeed!, we are working on the next EP, we have all drums recorded already and guitars demoed, also we won a fully recorded song in a pro studio as a secondary price in metal to the masses, so i guess will pick a track from the new 5 tracks EP coming and make it our new single. Hopefully coming before the end of the year, the whole EP next year at some point i would say, and last but not least get in as many bills as possible to spread the blood.
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
Sanguinem: Two of our members are coming the day we play as they have other gigs, and the rest of us are staying in a hotel near by as we have friend that can’t camp unfortunately, we didn’t want to leave him alone.
The Razor's Edge: You’ve gotta keep hydrated at Bloodstock, what is your drink of choice for the weekend?
Sanguinem: Well personally beer and lemon water. You have to balance it out if you wanna survive, hahaha specially the day we play!
