Volbeat have sat in the back of the heavy music community’s consciousness over the last decade. One of the hardest working bands on the circuit they have played everywhere in between produced some of the last decades greatest albums. Last year saw the band take on an epic touring schedule, which The Razor’s Edge caught in Birmingham, to high praise.

With a year of inaction for us all, the band have put together a stunning twenty seven track live album, recorded across venues in Germany on the aforementioned 2019 tour. Germany holds an important place in the hearts of the band, a country they consider their second home, so it seems fitting the live recordings took place in the country.

The behemoth of a live record kicks off with the Peaky Blinders inspired intro, a TV series the band have fallen in love with, before kicking off with the magnificent ‘Lola Montez’. Such a strong start and yet still twenty six more songs to go! ‘Pelvis on Fire’ and ‘Doc Holiday’ get the live crowd into an early groove and that seeps through on the recording. Blues inspired licks mixed with heavier aggression and power, wonderful!

As the live album moves Michael Poulsen announces “Ladies and gentlemen I feel like I want to play some Johnny Cash” in his best southern American accent. A short interlude to the set, an amusing rendition of the song 'Ring of Fire', closed off with the German audience singing along resplendently.

The album highlights just what a back catalogue they have to chose from in a live setting, along with showcases their own talents as musicians. Heavy licks, oozing that bluesy American influence.

With live shows still seeming a long way off yet, the next best thing is a live album, and in ‘Rewind, Replay, Rebound: Live In Deutschland’ Volbeat have helped quell the thirst for live music somewhat until we can all return safely.
