Release Round Up

Release Round Up - June 18th

Every Friday there is a tidal wave of new music released unto the world. Whilst we try to cover as much as possible here at The Razor's Edge, it's not always possible to review everything. So each week on a Friday we'll round up some of the best new music available, some we've reviewed, some we haven't, but all worth checking out!

Theres a lot of new heavy music hitting the airwaves this week, everything from black metal, death metal, gothic metal, Stoner rock, doom, thrash metal and even some of your traditional heavy fuckin' metal!

Here's what we think you should check out today!

The big release this week is undoubtedly the self titled album from the legendary Helloween.

"There is a real sense of spirit and camaraderie, and that is captured wonderfully, and makes this a real feel good album. That really says it all, music is supposed to evoke an emotional reaction, and this is one of pure joyful exhilaration."

Despite line-up turmoil of late, Fear Factory release a new album this week, 'Aggression Continuum'.

"Burton puts in a hell of a final performance sounding more pissed off than ever. The music itself is also a sledgehammer of aggression with the classic Fear Factory staccato riffs from Dino mixed with the machine gun drumming from Mike Heller."

Prepare to be slain, with the heavy stylings of Oxblood Forge and their new album 'Decimator'.

"On doom metal foundations Oxblood Forge have built a heavy metal castle, strong enough to withstand the test of time, as well as any marauding invaders."

Canadian thrashers Video Nasty (not to be confused with the excellent British band Video Nasties) drop their self titled album vie Hammerheart Records this week.

"The music on here is like a splatter movie in itself. It throws out different styles left right and centre. Hardcore, thrash, punk, blast-beats in the death metal variety... More choice than a liquorice all-sorts help yourself buffet."

Pharaoh play thunderous metal with a melodic feel and tyhis week release latest album 'The Powers That Be'.

Psychedelic stoner riffs emanate from the 'The Mess' the new album from Yagow, released this week via Crazysane Records.

"It feels like a journey through time, fusing several genres into one with an avant-garde twist."

Vulture Lord unleash black metal fury on Friday with new album 'Desecration Rite'.

"The guitars shred at your throat, the drums pummel your body and the vocals cause you bend the knee and worship at the alter of The King of The Bottomless Pit."

In amongst the avalanche of death metal releases this week stands 'Process of Extinction' the new album from Bloodbeat.

"Whilst Bloodbeat stick closely to the blueprint, the searing guitar breaks on tracks such as the battering ‘Pulse’ provide some variation whilst the underlying groove on the Pantera-esque ‘No Control’ is secured by reliable engine room of bassist Fux and drummer Paul Hopp."
