Release Round Up – January 15th, 2021

Every Friday there is a tidal wave of new music released unto the world. Whilst we try to cover as much as possible here at The Razor's Edge, it's not always possible to review everything. So each week on a Friday we'll round up some of the best new music available, some we've reviewed, some we haven't, but all worth checking out!

Theres a lot of new music hitting the airwaves this week, but we've also seen some get postponed. Most notably the new Accept album which was original due out today but COVID issues have caused delays with the production of physical copies of the album. Look out for that later this month now.

But here we round up some of the best new music that is available TODAY!

Dread Sovereign

First up Irish purveyors of DOOM, Dread Sovereign, featuring Nemtheanga/Alan Averill of Primordial. If you like doom you will love this, but it's also an album that offers something for everyone.

We reviewed it earlier this week:

"A doom laden monstrosity with perfectly timed tempo changes that enable the band to effortless move from doom to black metal to NWOBHM and back again."

Check out our full review here.

Wall

Staying with doom for a minute, today also see's the release of Wall's debut E.P. A project put together in lockdown by the Cole twins of Desert Storm fame.

"Doomy majesty dripping in Iommi inspired riffage!"

It's safe to say we are big fans of the E.P. here at The Razor's Edge and you can check out our full review of it here.

For those rockers amongst you, there is a slew of new hard/classic rock albums out this week. Rising stars of British Rock, Hunted By Elephants, drop album 'Carry On' today. There's plenty of new thrash metal to go around this week too! Bay Area beasts Molten release their debut album 'Dystopian Syndrome'. Which our Carl described as:

Torn Fabriks

On Monday, Portugese thrashers Torn Fabriks dropped an early week release in 'Mind Consumption'.

"Powerful double bass kicks, jagged riffs and a thunderous feel all work in a pleasing and certainly old school combination."

Ingested

For the death metal aficionado's amongst us, there is a glut of releases in this genre too! Starting with British growlers Ingested who re-release their debut E.P. 'Stinking Cesspool of Liquefied Human Remnants' today remastered to perfection.

"A raging torrent of explosive riffing and machine gun drumming, combined with the horrific guttural utterings from vocalist Jay Evans punctured by some crazy high screams that are unworldly."

Our full review from earlier this week is here.

Album Review: Antre - Dark Spectrum

Heading to the darker depths of heavy music, there are three outstanding black metal releases out this week. First off the new E.P. 'Dark Spectrum' from Antre drops today.

"‘Dark Spectrum’ punishes and pulverises with its relentless savagery in a way you’d hope for from visceral, dynamic and alive heavy music."

SAgenland

Dutch black metal outfit Sagenland release 'Oale Groond' today, a foreboding yet short 30 minute recording melding black metal and folk into one singular beast.

Looking at the best of the rest of this week's releases. Horror punk aficionados Bloody Hammers release 'Songs of Unspeakable Terror' which we checked out earlier this week, here.
