Release Round Up - May 7th, 2021

Every Friday there is a tidal wave of new music released unto the world. Whilst we try to cover as much as possible here at The Razor's Edge, it's not always possible to review everything. So each week on a Friday we'll round up some of the best new music available, some we've reviewed, some we haven't, but all worth checking out!

Theres a lot of new heavy music hitting the airwaves this week, everything from black metal, death metal, gothic metal, Stoner rock, doom, thrash metal and even some of your traditional heavy fuckin' metal!

Here's what we think you should check out today!

The godfathers of doom Candlemass release a stunning live album this week in 'Green Valley Live' which comes out via Peaceville Records.

"‘Green Valley Live’ is an opportunity to hear the seminal doom metal outfit flex their musical muscles and confirm what many of us have long known. Candlemass remain the legendary doom metal band."

Thrashers Artillery bounce back from their turbulent history with new album 'X' out this week via Metal Blade Records.

"With ‘X’ the band have come up with a very strong and suitably fetching farewell to their fallen brother Morten, ‘X’ is certainly the fastest and thrashiest album the band has come up with since the early days, and quality wise their best since ‘When Death Comes’."

Northern Irish rockers Trucker Diablo bounce back with a corker of an album, 'Tail End Of A Hurricane' this week.

"Full of big riffs, anthemic choruses and feelgood singalong songs."

As well as the aforementioned Artillery, there is plenty more new thrash metal on offer this week. San Diego's Nightshadow blend thrash and power metal into their latest album 'Strike Them Dead', released this week.

"The passion is clearly there, the fire and the fury are present and correct, the guitar work is superb and for the most part, Dell can hold a note well."

Beekeeper are the only band to take the metal world by swarm and today they release their 2017 album 'Slaves to the Nothing' on vinyl for the first time.

"It’s a raw yet addictive record, with underlying melody to balance the relentless swarming assault. Certainly, one that should leave thrash fans buzzing after a few plays."

Denver five-piece Immortal Sÿnn drop 'Force of Habit' this Friday.

"The arrival of new vocalist Duel Sharpe brings a melodic glam feel to the sound of the band, which is a jarring juxtaposition to the thrashier elements of the band’s music, which is solid."

And still on the thrash front Darkfall and Mortal Stike deliver a crushing split album 'Thrashing Death Squad'. Whilst Terminalist drop the hyperthrash fused album 'The Great Acceleration' and Misfire unleashed 'Sympathy for The Ignorant' last Saturday!

Beastwood release an E.P. of dirty rock, with a tinge of sludge and stoner rock in 'The Long Road To Ho' this week, available via Coffin & Bolt Records.

"Bar fight inducing riffs abound, and a Motorhead “we play rock n roll” vibe continues throughout the E.P.'s length."

Deathcore is probably the fasted growing heavy sub-genre around these days and Osiah throw their hat int he ring as real contenders this week with the release of 'Loss' on Unique Leader Records.

Toronto-based bruisers, Last Agony unleash their debut album on an unsuspecting world this week. 'The Imminent Slaughter' gets it's release via Sentient Ruin.

"Channelling grindcore acts like Napalm Death and Extreme Noise Terror with the crust punk of Electro Hippies and Anti Cimex, Last Agony have delivered a primal musical assault of rapid-fire guitar, caustic vocals and insane brutality."

On the black metal front there are a shit tonne (actual mathematical measurement) of releases this week. French black metal maestros Hanternoz release a rather magnificent 'Au Fleuve de Loire'. Grey Aura deliver 'Zwart Vierkant', Kosmodemonic release 'Liminal Light', Seth drop 'La Morsure du Christ' and Wormlight unleash 'Nightmother'. Whilst Torn Between Two Worlds'  have a two track E.P. 'The Beauty of Deception/All Eyes On Me'.

But the big black metal release of the week is the UK's own Dawn Ray'd who drop the surprise E.P. 'Wild Fire'. We previewed track 'Wild Fire I' earlier this week, check out the video below!

Death Metal fans rejoice! For you are not left wanting this week... Garden of Eyes have their new 7 inch single out, 'Boomhammer'. Hadit release the snappily titled 'With Joy and Ardour Through the Incommensurable Path', Kataan drop the mesmeric selft titled 'Kataan', Mephtic Grave unleash 'Into The Atrium Of Inhuman Morbidity' and Traumatomy release 'Extirpation Paradigms'.

And if you like to mix up your styles, there's a few more on offer. In Asymmetry bulldozer with their technical death offering 'Ashes of Dead Worlds'. Human Failure meld death metal, punk and noise on 'Crown On The Head Of A King Of Mud', whilst Gateway fuse death and doom on their E.P. 'Flesh Reborn'. And for something darker then deathgaze outfit Kardashev release 'The Baring of Shadows' whilst blackend death combo Rituals of the Dead Hand drop 'The Darkest Light'.

Oslo's own hardcore outfit Shevils may have been quiet of late, but today they re-emerge fresh and ready for action with new album 'Miracle of the Sun'.

"Accessible, yet complex; melodic, yet dissonant; upbeat, yet dark – Miracle of the Sun is a contradictory album which is all-the-more compelling for it."

Epic is the only word that can be used to describe Ereb Altor and their new E.P. 'Eldens Boning' which is released this week.
